## In short

The Hazel McCallion LRT, once due in 2024, is tracking for 2028, and Metrolinx has not published an opening date. Brampton gets three stops along Hurontario Street. Buy for the home and the commute you can use today, and treat the train as a possible bonus.

## The train is later than planned, and Brampton still gets three stops

If you are shopping near Hurontario Street because a light rail line is coming, hear this from me before you sign anything: the Hazel McCallion Line was due in 2024, and Global News reported on July 2, 2026 that it is now tracking for 2028. Metrolinx has not published an opening date. It has said the date will follow testing and commissioning.

What has not changed is the shape of the line. The [City of Brampton](https://www.brampton.ca/EN/residents/transit/Projects-Initiatives/Hazel-McCallion-Line/Pages/Overview.aspx) describes 19 stops from Brampton Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue to Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga. Three are in Brampton: Ray Lawson, County Court and Brampton Gateway Terminal. The line connects with Brampton Transit and Züm, Mississauga's MiWay, the Highway 403 Transitway, and GO Transit's Milton and Lakeshore West rail lines.

## What happened in 2026

In July 2026, Metrolinx split its $4.6-billion contract with the Mobilinx consortium into two agreements, one to build the line and one to operate and maintain it. Metrolinx said the split resolves the commercial disputes, and the province said the new contracts will not raise the project's price. Metrolinx told its board that it has spent $3.5 billion of an estimated $5.5 billion.

In June 2026 Metrolinx also held a virtual open house on progress, milestones, construction and bike infrastructure, and it posted the recording and the answers to residents' questions on its project page. Those are the places to look for a date, not a listing description.

## What I tell buyers about transit and price

I have been licensed in Brampton real estate since 2003, and transit plans come up in buyer conversations often. Here is how I handle them with you.

First, I separate what exists from what is promised. A Züm stop you can walk to this week is a fact. A station platform with no opening date is a plan. Plans are worth knowing about, and you should not pay for them as if they were facts.

Second, I check the home on its ordinary days. Walk the route to the stop you would use. Time the drive to the nearest GO station at 7:30 on a weekday morning. Look at the bus you can take now.

## Questions to ask before you offer

Ask your agent to answer these in writing, with a link for each:

- Which stop is closest to this address, and which source says so?
- What does the City of Brampton or Metrolinx publish about construction on the street?
- Would the monthly payment still work if the line opens late?

Plenty of agents let a map line carry the sale. I would rather you buy a home that earns its place today. That is the same standard I use when I [help you choose where to live](https://about.manjindersingh.com/brampton-neighbourhoods/) and when I prepare your offer. The [questions I suggest you ask any agent](https://about.manjindersingh.com/insights/questions-to-ask-a-realtor-before-listing/) apply to me as well.
